Novels (and the people who pen them) are greatly assisted by the power of a well-written review, something that I’ve found many people just “don’t have the time” to do! All the prolific readers in my life admit to rarely–if ever–penning a review to something they’ve read, good or bad. Devices like e-readers make it easy enough to rate a book (I know from experience that at the end of a book, Kindle asks you to rate it out of five stars), and that’s easy enough to do for some. But it can be terribly misleading. A simple, innocent example: someone reads a book expecting werewolves, only to find none. BAM, low star rating, even if it was their misunderstanding. It does not review the actual content of the book, but it certainly damages its score. So I’ve learned to peruse written reviews (particularly long ones!) to see what people take away from something. These reviews hold more water. To that point, I’ve written three reviews previously on this site, and they are being moved to this location to archive them for easier viewing. Take what you will from them; I hope they at least spark some thoughts worth having~
